How did it all start for you?
I can’t remember I ever listened to other music than electronic music, even when I was a kid. But when I went to Ibiza for the first time at the age of 18, I really knew I wanted to become a DJ
How did you choose your DJ name?
My real first name is Pedro, my second name is a typical Belgian name. Influenced by the Ibiza spirit I wanted to keep my Spanish first name and decided to add a Spanish second name which started with the same letter as my real second name: “M”. Then I just took a Spanish dictionary and the first word I saw on the M-page was “Mercado”, so Pedro Mercado was born
Who is your biggest inspiration?
Definitely Sven Väth
What has been the most memorable night for you as a DJ?
I had so many 🙂 But if I really have to choose, I would say my gig in Russia. Was really an amazing experience!
And as a clubber?
Every time I hear another artist play a track I made 🙂
Except deep house what is your favorite music genre?
Hypnotising tech-house & melodic techno
What is your favorite track ever? Are there memories linked to it?
“Quantum Leap” by Symphony Of Love (1994) which is the first track I can remember ever being in a club. I was 16 years old, the club was called Cirao, it was in my hometown, and it still gives me goosebumps
What is your favorite DJ set ever? Why?
Impossible to choose. I do so many parties… maybe that’s why people sometimes call me “the professional raver” 😉
What are your music predictions? How will the scene evolve?
What will happen nobody can tell, but what I hope is that we go back to the underground!
What is your preferred DJ pose based on the famous DJ pose list?
That’s a difficult one. I think The Artist in the beginning of my set, and The Jesus at the end
What is the best part of life as a DJ?
Meeting all kind of people from all over the world but with the same passion for quality music
What is the worst experience you had as a DJ?
I had so many 🙂 Probably so called underground parties where some people come to ask to play R&B… can you believe?!
Who would you love to DJ with?
Again Sven Väth, a marathon B2B-set + after-party please
What is your ideal DJ booth?
Simple: a good pair of CD-J’s, a good mixer, a good monitor,… enough space to move and some crazy party people around me
What advice would you give to aspiring Djs?
Never give up, work hard, produce your own tracks, listen to others but follow your own path always with passion, and at the end make sure you can still look in the mirror
Except music… what are your hobbies? What are you doing during your free time?
Sport, sport & sport
And finally… Why do you love Deep House Belgium?
Because they are thé reference in Belgium in our style of music, and of course also because they took me up into their family!
